Classroom Assessment Page for 3-5 Year Olds

Welcome to our classroom assessment page designed for young learners aged 3 to 5 years! This tool helps teachers evaluate and support the development of essential early childhood skills.  We will email you the assessment tool and it is yours to keep for all your students! 

Skills Assessed:

1. Letter/Sound Recognition:

   • Identify letters of the alphabet and their corresponding sounds.

2. Counting:

   • Count numbers up to 20 accurately.

3. Number Recognition:

   • Recognize and name numbers from 1 to 10.

4. Name Writing:

   • Practice writing their own name with correct letter formation.

5. Rhymes:

   • Identify and replicate rhyming words to enhance phonemic awareness.

6. Handwriting:

   • Develop fine motor skills through practicing handwriting patterns and letter formation.

Skill Levels:

We have created an easy way to categorize children’s assessment results into three levels:

• Beginning Level:

  • For children who are just starting to develop foundational skills and require more support and practice.

• On Target:

  • For children who are meeting expected developmental milestones and are progressing well with their skills.

• Advanced Level:

  • For children who are excelling beyond typical age expectations and are ready for more challenging activities.

Incorporating Assessments with Parent-Teacher Conferences:

To keep parents informed and involved in their child's educational journey, we use these assessments as a foundation for our parent-teacher conferences. Here’s how we incorporate this:

• Regular Updates:

  • Provide parents with regular updates on their child's progress through detailed reports and observations.

• Individualized Meetings:

  • Discuss each child's assessment results during parent-teacher conferences, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.

• Action Plans:

  • Create collaborative action plans with parents to support their child’s development at home and in school.
